A museum devoted to table tennis

TABLE tennis fans will be able to interact with star players and learn how to improve their techniques thanks to a table tennis museum being set up in Shanghai.
The city museum will be the new home of International Table Tennis Federation Museum in Lausanne of Switzerland. It will use virtual reality and motion capture technologies to help fans of the sport boost their performances.
The Shanghai University of Sport yesterday released the exhibition scheme of the International Table Tennis Federation Museum and Chinese Table Tennis Museum, which is now being built under supervision of the university.
The exhibition area of the museum, which is expected to open by June 2018, will have table tennis culture exhibition areas, as well as an interactive area.
The world table tennis exhibition area will display approximately 3,000 items collected from the International Table Tennis Federation Museum in Lausanne.
It will show how the sport, which originated in England, developed into a world renowned game.
In the interactive area, visitors can improve technique by imitating movements on screens, or play against world champions via motion capture technology, or try their luck against robots.
With more than 300 million yuan (US$45 million) of investment, the museum will be located besides the World Expo Museum in Huangpu District.
Thomas Weikert, president of the International Table Tennis Federation said: “It will be the largest and most professional table tennis culture museum.” Weikert also donated items from the recent Olympics.
