A touch of Star Wars at city鈥檚 four-day travel fair
THE four-day Shanghai World Travel Fair opened at Shanghai Exhibition Center yesterday, offering visitors a glimpse into other countries’ culture, history, landscape and people.
The annual travel carnival gathers exhibitors from 52 countries and regions that bring diversified performances, handicraft displays, virtual reality experiences and delicacies to the fair.
New itineraries are launched, lucky draws are hosted and generous discounts are offered at the event.
The delegation from Saipan, the largest of the Northern Mariana Islands, greets visitors with traditional Chamorro and Carolinian dance performances at the Marianas exhibition.
The dances were originally intended to rally warriors into battle. “We want to showcase the culture and beauty of Marianas by introducing an abundance of cultural activities to the fair and we decorate the scene with tropical resort atmosphere,” said Judy Torres, deputy director of Marianas Visitors Authority.
Marianas travel options are offered at the event, allowing tourists to explore more itineraries like family travel, weddings and honeymoons, or diving at the islands of Saipan, Tinian and Rota.
Japan’s Kintetsu Railway introduces its rail pass at the fair.
The pass has four discounted tickets ranging from one day to five days, allowing unlimited rides on the Kintetsu Line to travel in Japan’s Kansai region, which includes some renowned destinations such as Nara, Kyoto and Osaka.
Star Wars characters appear at the Tunisia exhibition stand to interact with visitors.
The Star wars movies were partially filmed in southern Tunisia. The African country displays its Mediterranean beaches and archaeological remains at the fair.
It has applied a visa-free policy for Chinese passport holders since February with a maximum stay of 90 days.
“The participation is to show tourists the diversity of Tunisia’s landscape, ranging from seaside to desert and cultural heritage,” said Neji Ben Othmane, general director of Tunisian National Tourist Office.
During the four-day event, two forums on the trends of China’s tourism market will be held.
