Animal lovers stop dealer taking cats

A MAN was injured when he and other animal lovers stopped a dealer taking away hundreds of cats in Putuo District yesterday.
The dealer had a truckload of cats, many of which volunteers believed were stolen from nearby communities, said one witness. He released the animals when confronted by the group but is alleged to have attacked them with a hammer, slightly injuring a 25-year-old man. Police took both parties away for questioning. The cats, which may have been destined for restaurants, were given to volunteers to find owners.
