Another child loses hand in meat mincer accident
A 3-YEAR-OLD boy lost his left hand after it was trapped in a meat mincer at his parents’ dumpling restaurant in Jinshan District, Xinmin Evening News reported yesterday.
This is the second incident this month in which a child has lost their hand in a meat grinder in a family restaurant.
Two weeks ago, a 4-year-old girl who put her right hand into a mincer at her parents restaurant in Putuo District had to have most of her arm amputated.
The latest accident happened on Saturday when the boy was playing in the kitchen of the restaurant.
The report said the family were alerted by his screams after the boy’s left hand was drawn into the machine.
Firefighters called to the scene found that his hand was trapped in the electric grinder.
They used a saw to cut open the machine and rushed the boy to hospital.
However, doctors were unable to save the boy’s hand which had been severely damaged.
Police reminded parents to keep a close eye on their children during the summer vacation and ensure they are not allowed near dangerous machinery.
