Arsonist was on meth
A MAN who tried to set fire to a convenience store in Jing’an District on Sunday night was on drugs at the time, police said yesterday. Officers spotted the man, surnamed Lin, behaving suspiciously outside the store and approached him. As they did so, Lin rushed into the store and began splashing gasoline from a bottle he was carrying onto the shelves. As he attempted to light the fuel, police moved in and managed to prevent him. A small fire broke out, but that was quickly extinguished. Lin later confessed to taking methamphetamine earlier in the evening and said he was hallucinating at the time of the arson attempt. He is now in detention pending further inquiries.
