Baby joy for woman hit by car
A WOMAN gave birth to a healthy baby girl after being hit by a car and knocked unconscious while walking on the road in Jiading District.
The woman, who was 35 weeks pregnant, was walking in the middle of Baiyun Road at 9:50am on Monday when a car struck her from behind.
Surveillance footage showed that she was knocked into the air and fell heavily to the ground.
Left unconscious by the impact, she did not awake until the next day.
The woman was rushed to hospital and underwent a cesarean section, giving birth to a healthy baby girl weighing 2.5 kilograms, police said.
A relative said the woman had just been for a routine prenatal check when the accident happened. She remains in hospital under observation.
Meanwhile, a bus driver died after his vehicle crashed on the elevated Yan’an Road yesterday morning.
The Airport Line 2 bus was driving past the Jiangsu Road exit ramp at 5am when it crashed into a concrete lane barrier. The vehicle then slammed into the right side guardrail, police said.
Its driver fell from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.
There were no passengers on board, said the managing company.
Afterward, traffic backed up along the elevated road between Jiangsu and Huashan roads for a kilometer.
