Bad loser threatens to blow up gaming room
A WOMAN who threatened workers at a gaming room in Chongming County with a homemade explosive has been questioned by police.
Last Friday, the woman, who has not been named, got into an altercation with the owner of the room after claiming a machine had failed to pay out a prize of 6,000 yuan (US$976). During the dispute, the owner hit the woman over the head, knocking her to the ground.
The following day, the woman returned to the venue armed with several glass bottles filled with gunpowder and firecrackers.
After attacking several gaming machines with an iron bar, the woman was approached by members of staff. When they tried to intervene, she threatened them with the explosives.
However, after becoming highly agitated the woman passed out and workers called an ambulance and the police. Doctors said later that she had fainted due to a high blood sugar level.
Police seized the homemade bombs and later questioned the woman in hospital. They also impounded several gaming machines.
Witnesses said the woman had become addicted to gambling after her business began failing and she lost money on a bad investment.
A neighbor took her to the gaming room and after an initial win she soon became hooked. But over the next three months she lost about 130,000 yuan.
Police have yet to say what charges might be brought against the woman or the owner of the gaming machine.
