Beijing official elected Hongkou District mayor
WU Qing, a former official with the China Securities Regulatory Commission, was elected the director of Hongkou District.
Wu, 45, was the former director of the commission's fund department before being elected the post at the sixth session of the 14th Hongkou District People's Congress. He holds a PhD in economics.
He has served as acting district director since last October and he is among the 66 central government officials assigned to work at local level as a measure to train middle-aged and young leaders.
Hongkou District, which covers the North Bund area, plays an important role in the city's ambitious plan to develop into an international shipping hub.
