SHANGHAI local bee products manufacturers are calling for a new quality standard on honey and other bee products, as many of the products now sold on the market are counterfeits.
The Shanghai Suburban Bee Industry Co said now some manufacturers made honey with syrup and propolis - a resinous mixture bees collect from buds - from vegetable glue.
The Shanghai Association for Agriculture said the present quality standard for bee products is too weak.
