Branded names fail quality tests

DOWN winter jackets sold by brands like Mizuno, Metersbonwe and Tony Wear have failed quality tests for containing less down feather than what its label indicated, Shanghai quality watchdog said yesterday.

They were among five batches of down jackets that were found to be substandard by the Shanghai Quality and Technical Supervision Bureau in a latest check that involved 40 batches of jackets by 32 companies.

A batch of hooded down jackets made by Japanese sports goods company Mizuno China, a batch of women's down jackets of causal clothes brand Metersbonwe Shanghai and a batch of menswear brand Tony Wear Shanghai's down jackets were also on the list.

The Shanghai Lanjian Clothes Manufacturing Co and Shanghai Gather Jewels also had the same problem, while Lanjian's products also had poor water color fastness.

A staff member with Mizuno Shanghai's after-sales division said the company was in talks with authorities.
