Bus staff ensure it all runs smoothly
DURING the six-day sessions of Shanghai’s lawmakers and political advisers, a team of drivers and bus hostesses has been as busy as those attending.
Together with the organizing administration of the Shanghai People’s Congress and the local committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, they are vital to keep the gatherings running smoothly.
Gu Jianmin, a manager at Bashi Group which provides shuttle bus services for the session, is among hundreds of people providing support services for the meetings.
“My biggest fear over the past week is being unable to get delegates to the meeting venue on time,” said Gu, who is responsible for coordinating drivers.
He’s been getting up at 4am and not getting home until 8pm in order to make sure that everything goes according to plan.
“Delegates are delivering proposals on behalf of people, and it is our responsibility to serve them well,” Gu said.
Buses from 30 lines have been in service connecting major roads and the two meeting venues.
This year, Bashi Group selected nearly 100 people, most of whom are experienced drivers and bus hostesses, to deliver the service.
Some lines from the northern end of the city start shuttling delegates at 7am.
“During my four years’ experience, I have made friends with some delegates,” Gu said.
“When they say ‘thank you’ after a meeting, I feel everything’s been worthwhile.”
