Card numbers stolen at hotel
A HOTEL receptionist was sentenced to two years and nine months in prison for stealing over 20,000 yuan (US$3,153) from five customers' credit cards, Huangpu District People's Court said yesterday.
The convict, surnamed Wang, 37, noted the customers' credit card numbers while working at a hotel in downtown Huangpu District, according to prosecutors.
Wang used the stolen credit card information between March and April.
The court heard Wang didn't need the actual credit cards because the offline consumption function of a point-of-sale machine could complete the transaction with the credit card number only.
Wang was caught in August 2011.
