Carrefour, Metro found selling contaminated fish
SOME fish sold at Carrefour’s Quyang outlet and Metro’s Jinshan store were found to be contaminated with the residue of banned fish drugs and antibiotics.
Aquatic produce in outlets of Trust-Mart, Lianhua and NGS supermarkets and some wet markets were also unqualified, said the Shanghai Food and Drug Administration. The watchdog checked 160 batches of aquatic produce in the first quarter, of which 12 percent failed to meet standards. These were removed from the shelf and those responsible will face punishment, the FDA said yesterday.
