Charity confirms celebrity donation
A SHANGHAI charity organization confirmed it received a 3 million yuan (US$461,064) donation from newlyweds Wang Xiaofei and Barbie Tsu.
The restaurateur Wang and his wife, a famous actress from Taiwan, had been accused of not making the promised donation.
Wang posted the donation receipts online, saying all the wedding gift money they received will go to earthquake and tsunami relief in Japan.
The 29-year-old restaurateur posted two invoices - one for 1 million yuan, the other for 2 million yuan - on his blog at Sina.com last Friday and described the rumors as "silly."
"What on earth is more important, the donation or the invoice?" Wang wrote on his blog.
Wang said the donation had been completed by March 28, a week after his wedding to Tsu.
The Shanghai More Love Foundation confirmed the donation on Friday, according to NetEase.com. A foundation officer surnamed Yin said the invoices were filed after the 3 million yuan had been transferred to their account. But Yin did not give details on how the money would be used.
Wang said they added some of their own money to the donation "to give our love."
Several angry netizens had allegedly gathered in front of a Wang's South Beauty restaurant outlet in Beijing earlier this month, questioning the couple's donation and demanding Wang show proof.
Founded in 2008, the More Love Foundation gave millions of yuan for earthquake relief in Wenchuan, Sichuan Province. The foundation is also active in Shanghai.
