Chauffeur jailed for sex tape blackmail

A CHAUFFEUR has been jailed for four years for blackmailing his former employers with pictures of them from a sex video that he posted online, the Changning District People’s Court said yesterday.

The footage was taken from a tape the 56-year-old driver, surnamed Cao, found in the home of the husband, surnamed Tong, and wife, surnamed Li, who employed him.

Cao worked as the couple’s driver from 2006 and stole the sex tape when he helped them change furniture in 2007, the court heard.

After taking the tape home, he copied the footage onto his computer and hid it, the court heard.

Cao quit his job in August 2013 after the couple moved far from his home.

He asked them to find him an opening in the company owned by Tong, but was rejected.

The driver brought a labor dispute lawsuit against the couple but lost.

In March last year, he registered a WeChat messaging account using Tong’s photograph and cellphone number and posted some screenshots of the sex tape on it.

When Tong saw these, he contacted Cao and offered him 400,000 yuan (US$64,400) in exchange of the sex tape.

But Cao posted the more pictures a month later as he hadn’t received the money and told Li that he would post more.

Cao was captured by police when the couple handed 400,000 yuan to him on April 24 and the tape was later seized in his flat.

In court Cao said the money was what he deserved as compensation for seven years of driving service. However, the court said Cao threatening to release more private pictures for money should undoubtedly be viewed as extortion.
