Chemical company fined US$7,000
SHANGHAI Baosteel Chemical Co has been fined 45,000 yuan (US$7,200) by the environment authority for discharging unsafe levels of non-methane hydrocarbon.
According to a report issued by Shanghai Environmental Monitoring Center, the density of the chemicals discharged by the company’s waste gas tower failed to meet national standards. The density was such that it could pose a threat to people’s health, it said. The company, affiliated to Baosteel Group, received the fine last week, and has been ordered to take remedial action.
