Child speared by steel bar doing well

THE 5-year-old boy who underwent emergency surgery on Tuesday to remove a steel bar from his brain regained consciousness yesterday and will be transferred from intensive care to a regular ward within the next day or two, doctors from Shanghai No. 10 People’s Hospital said. The boy from Zhejiang Province was rushed to Shanghai after being hit by a falling bar while playing. A 15-centimeter section of the 45cm-long bar pierced the child’s brain and surgeons needed three hours to remove it. They said the procedure went smoothly.
