Company flouts ban

A COMPANY in Songjiang District that manufactures glass products has flouted an order to suspend its operations for illegal discharging sewage. Shanghai Baoshunjie Industrial Co, which is based in Jiuting Town was ordered to halt its business and fined 325,000 yuan (US$52,300) for dumping wastewater without approval from the environmental protection bureau. However, it refused to comply, so environment officials will now seek help from other government departments to enforce the order. The company is also suspected of operating without a valid license, authorities said, adding that an investigation is under way and further punishments might be issued.
