Complaints galore during festive holiday
THE city’s market watchdog said it received more than 400 complaints during the three-day Mid-Autumn Festival holiday, which ended yesterday.
Among the 438 complaints and tips-off, food and transport topped the list, the Shanghai Administration for Industry and Commerce said yesterday.
There were 45 food-related complaints with 38 of them involving mooncakes, a festival delicacy. The administration said mooncake complaints rose by 20 from a year earlier.
Other complaints involved delivery problems, failure to redeem coupons and aftersales services, the administration said.
A consumer said he bought coupons that were to be exchanged with mooncakes but was told that none were available.
Another consumer said she bought two boxes of mooncakes from an app, but they were delivered very late.
There were 48 complaints regarding transport, among them, 36 were about shared bikes.
The operators’ refusal to return deposits, dispute over charges and bike breakdown were the major irritants, the administration said.
A rider complained that he paid 99 yuan (US$14.44) deposit for using shared bikes, but he never got the deposit back.
Another consumer said a shared bike could not be used as it didn’t work. However, he was still charged for it.
The administration did not reveal the names of the businesses involved. It said the complaints have been forwarded to the districts’ market supervision and management bureaus and consumer councils.
