Court clears agency in lawsuit over miscarriage

A NEWLY married couple lost a suit seeking compensation from a travel agency after the pregnant woman had a miscarriage during a package tour to Europe.

The couple paid for a 10-day package tour to France and Italy last September. Just days before their scheduled trip, the woman found out she was four weeks pregnant, the Zhabei District People’s Court learnt.

The couple, who had paid 6,000 yuan as deposits, decided to go ahead with the trip.

The woman miscarried in Florence, Italy, and was forced to abort the trip.

In the lawsuit, the husband claimed that the agency should have informed them of the risks involved for pregnant woman during trips. The agency, which was not identified, claimed that the couple did not want to lose part of the deposit.

The court said the miscarriage had nothing to do with the agency, which did well to rush the woman to a local hospital and paid the bills.
