Crafts, skills on show at Yuyuan
The making of Nanxiang steamed buns, traditional lanterns and fans, scissors and traditional Chinese medicines will be showcased at the Yuyuan Garden from September 12 to October 7, the Huangpu District government said yesterday.
Senior masters from the city’s famous brands, including the Laomiao Gold, Wang Dalong Scissors and Shanghai Classical Hotel, will show off their skills.
The event is part of the annual Huangpu Tourism Festival which will be held from September 14 until October 7 and will feature traditional Jiu Zi competitions.
The expat Jiu Zi competition, featuring nine traditional games, will be held on Friday morning in the Jiu Zi Park, which covers 7,000 square meters along the Suzhou Creek. The games like peg-top spinning and hoop running were a common sight in the residential alleyways in the late 1950s and until the 1970s.
The festival will open with a parade of floats and performances from more than 20 countries and regions around the world.
