Crocodile’s wild adventure ends in zoo
A FENGXIAN District resident who took home a crocodile he found on the road, and then panicked, called the police yesterday.
The reptile was shifted to Shanghai Zoo yesterday.
The resident, surnamed Hu, said he found the crocodile when he was driving on the Outer Ring road near Cao’an Road at about 10pm on Monday. He told police the crocodile’s mouth was sealed with a rubber belt.
Police said Hu wanted to keep the aquatic reptile and sell it later. He took the crocodile home and kept it in his garage. But to his horror, the restless reptile shook off the tape on its mouth.
Left with no choice, Hu called the police yesterday in the morning.
Police identified it as a Siamese crocodile. It was 1.63 meters long and weighed over 25 kilograms.
The crocodile was moved to Shanghai Zoo yesterday afternoon for routine inspection and quarantine.
Bai Jiaming, a zoo official said it will be kept and raised at the zoo.
The reptile was suspected to have fallen from a freight vehicle during transportation.
As per Chinese law, residents are not allowed to raise crocodiles without permissions.
