Dart-shooting man is mentally sick
JIADING District Prosecutors’ Office is seeking involuntary hospitalization for a mentally sick person who shot poisonous darts at two pedestrians.
Police caught the suspect, a man surnamed Zhang, and found seven darts dipped in succinylcholine, an agonist to induce muscle relaxation and short-term paralysis, in his electric bicycle.
Prosecutors said Zhang bought a crossbow and shot the darts randomly at passersby.
After it was confirmed Zhang was mentally ill and had no previous criminal charge against him, prosecutors filed an application with the Jiading District People’s Court to give Zhang a mandatory treatment in hospital.
One of Zhang’s victim was a woman surnamed Li who was struck on the head by a dart when she was riding an electric bicycle in August last year. She felt dizzy and her vision was blurred and was later rushed to the hospital.
Another man, surnamed Xu, reported a similar incident and reported the matter to the police. Both of them are recovering after receiving medical treatments.
