Delegates form a diverse lot

A total of 793 delegates elected from the city's 1.82 million Party members attended the 10th Shanghai Municipal Congress of the Communist Party of China yesterday.

"It is my honor to represent other Party members to attend the congress," said Zhu Xueqin, chairwoman of the workers' union at Shanghai Huari Costume Ltd Co. She is one of the city's millions of migrant workers, and it is the second time for her to attend the congress.

The current CPC Shanghai committee will conclude its five-year term this year and a new committee will be elected during the ongoing congress. Delegates said they will cast a serious vote to select capable leaders for the next term.

To better serve their responsibility, delegates are encouraged for the first time to deliver proposals to improve the works of the Party. A total of 37 proposals were delivered by late yesterday,
