Dispute over 'mistress killer' motive

A MAN has been arrested for allegedly killing his mistress, but police have heard contrasting possible motives for the murder.

Suspect Zhou Jinhong told police that he killed his mistress, surnamed Zhang, after he lost his temper. He claimed he had asked to end their three-year relationship but Zhang demanded compensation.

However, Zhang's family said she had planned to leave Zhou on the day she died and remarry her ex-husband.

Zhou was arrested on the charge of murder as he had surrendered to police and confessed, Songjiang District prosecutors said.

Zhang became a colleague of Zhou in 2008, after she divorced. They became lovers and lived as a couple. Zhou was married with a 15-year-old son, but his wife didn't suspect he was having an affair.

Zhou allegedly strangled Zhang on February 23.

He handed himself in to police five days later.
