Dispute over wine label deal made on WeChat

A businessman who ordered wine labels via WeChat but refused to pay in full on delivery has been ordered to pay the money as agreed, the Pudong New Area People’s Court said yesterday. It was the first WeChat-based contract dispute in Shanghai.
As the two parties didn't sign a written contract, WeChat messages and screenshots were accepted by the court as evidence that an agreement existed.
In April 2015, the defendant, surnamed Ni, ordered 6,000 wine labels from a company in Dongguan, Guangdong Province, after agreeing on a price and delivery date on WeChat, the court said.
Ni paid 30,000 yuan (US$4,500) in advance, but he refused to pay the remaining 75,000 yuan after receiving the goods in May 2015, claiming the quality was poor. However, Ni could not provide evidence to support that claim, the court said.
