Elderly heatstroke victim's identity unknown
POLICE are trying to identify a senior citizen who collapsed from heatstroke on Wednesday and remained in critical condition today in the hospital.
The man, who had no ID or other papers on him when authorities arrived, collapsed while walking alone on Guohe Road near Qingyuanhuan Road in Yangpu District about 11:15am, according to the Shanghai Morning Post.
Police hope that the man's relatives or friends will come forward.
People who gathered around the man were afraid to lift him but called for help from an ambulance.
"It was hot then. The sidewalk was in full sun and was boiling hot. No one dared to lift him up," a witness told the newspaper.
Police and an ambulance crew soon arrived. The man has not regained consciousness.
It was unclear whether he went out with his papers or whether they were stolen while he was on the ground. Police have commented on the claim that he may have been robbed.
