A man accused of siphoning 23 million yuan (US$3.46 million) from his company to gamble on soccer matches will stand trial for embezzlement, according to Hongkou District People’s Procuratorate.
The suspect, surnamed Shi, worked as financial manager in a local company. He claimed that he started transferring money from the company’s account to his own pocket to feed his online gambling habit starting in October 2016.
