Ex salesman punished for spreading rumor about products
A former salesman of a local apparatus company has been sentenced to six months in prison with a six-month probation for sending defamatory messages to clients about the company's products, judges said yesterday.
The 41-year-old man, surnamed Zhang, claimed in the messages that the products had serious quality problems to take revenge on his former superior for changing his job.
The judges didn't reveal the company's name.
Zhang told the Fengxian District People's Court that he made up the story and was never aware that he would bear criminal responsibility for sending false messages.
He sent 80 messages to his former clients within three days in February, telling them "the products had defects and had caused several blasts."
The messages had caused a drop in sales contracts, prosecutors said.
