Ex-convict admits to killing mother and brother

A MAN pleaded guilty yesterday to killing his younger brother and mother with a hammer during an argument about business.

Sun Jianguo, 32, a Henan Province native, argued that he had planned to resolve the disputes with his brother last July, but his brother attacked him with a fruit knife and a hammer.

The Shanghai No. 1 Intermediate People's Court didn't hand down a verdict following the hearing.

Sun came to the city in February 2010 to join his brother, working in the liquid gas trade, after being released from prison. He had been sentenced to five years in prison for contractual fraud by a Henan -Province court.

The brothers worked together to pay off debt Sun's brother owed and began to turn a profit - however, conflicts also began to appear.

Their business partners and friends said in testimony that Sun often quarreled with his brother and mother and had a hot temper.

As a result of the arguments, Sun went into business on his own and tried to poach his brother's clients. Sun's brother and mother asked him to leave the city, at which point he decided to visit his brother to try and resolve the situation.

At his brother's home, he said he wanted to stay and continue his business, but his brother said no.

The argument turned violent and Sun claimed his brother -attacked him with a knife, scissors and a hammer. Sun's mother, who also lived in the house, became involved in the fight and was fatally injured by Sun. He then beat his brother to death with the hammer, the court heard.

Sun was caught while trying to dispose of the bodies.
