Fat reward for 'Deep Throat' in food industry

SHANGHAI will offer ample rewards to "Deep Throat" in the food industry after the "dyed bun" scandal was exposed on CCTV due to a tip-off by the company's driver, local authorities said today.
If an industry insider alerts the government about an illegal practice or a food safety problem, he or she will be awarded more than 50,000 yuan. If it turns out to be a big case, the informer will be awarded a percentage of the case value, an official with the Shanghai Drug and Food Administration said.
"Deep Throat" who has been working in an industry for years is believed to know the hidden tricks or other secrets. If they could stand out, the city's law enforcement body will have better chances to deal with food problems.
Last month, a driver whose boss refused his request for overtime pay reported to local authorities that the company recycled outdated buns and added prohibited dyes to make them look new.
Currently, local residents can get a reward of up to 50,000 yuan for reporting illegal practices.
