Fireworks outlets cut
SHANGHAI will sharply reduce the number of outlets for buying fireworks this year to ensure public safety, authorities said yesterday.
No figures were given.
Meanwhile, police and firefighters have been combating illegal fireworks sales as the Spring Festival approaches.
About 9,000 boxes of illegal fireworks have been seized since the end of December, said officials.
City firefighters put out 124 fires last Chinese New Year’s Eve, plus 74 on the fourth night of the new year, when firecrackers welcome the God of Fortune.
