Fishing port in full sail
THE new fishing port planned for Changxing Island remains on track to open in October, its management company said yesterday.
As well as being Shanghai’s only national-level fishing port, the development at Hengsha is set to become a destination for tourists and food lovers, with its numerous restaurants and leisure facilities.
Many of the 30 restaurants at the site will offer views of the Yangtze River.
As well as accommodating more than 1,000 fishing boats — from as far afield as Japan and South Korea — the new port will be home to more than 100 processing plants, wholesalers and retailers, said Ni Jian, a member of the company’s business development team.
The facility will comprise a fixed dock and several floating docks, while its trade center is expected to become the biggest in the Yangtze River Delta region, handling 120,000 tons of fish every year, Ni said.
