Forum underlines importance of skills
AN international forum on skills and development held yesterday in Shanghai attracted more than 120 delegates from home and abroad.
Participants shared their views and experiences on such themes as high-quality apprenticeship, poverty alleviation through skills development, and WorldSkills standards linking industrial and education standards of vocational education and training.
Yin Weimin, China’s Minister of Human Resources and Social Security, said vocational training was the key for improving workers’ employability and capability to change careers, especially in regard to improving their employment opportunities.
Yin also called for an acceleration of international cooperation in vocational education and training.
Shanghai Mayor Ying Yong said skills were an important support and momentum for social and economic development and the city was looking forward to having highly skilled talent as it underwent economic transformation and industrial development.
The mayor also said that Shanghai would go all out to stage a creative and influential competition if it won the bid to host the 46th WorldSkills Competition.
