Galanz washers, fridges fail quality tests
REFRIGERATORS and washing machines made by Galanz were found to be substandard, local quality authorities said yesterday.
A type of Galanz refrigerator, model number BCD-190F2, was found to waste electricity while the washing machine, model number XQB60-J1, was found to have inadequate washing ability, said the Shanghai Bureau of Quality and Technical Supervision.
Officials found the problems in the latest regular market inspection. Both unqualified products were sold at the Media Markt Jinxiu Branch in the Pudong New Area, officials said.
The unqualified products, both manufactured in south China's Guangdong Province, have been removed from shelves, said the bureau.
The popular Guangdong-based brand has been caught in quality scandals recently. Earlier, the China Consumers' Association said Galanz microwave ovens, the company's leading products, were poor at heating food. The company's testy reply was that the association's quality test was carried out based on recommended heating levels, not compulsory national standards, and it refused to remove the questioned products from shelves.
