German donation for needy students
THE German Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai announced today that it will donate 200,000 yuan to support the education of needy Chinese students.
The money will be given to 51 students in Jinzhai County, Anhui Province via the Pfrang Association, a charity fund based in Nanjing, capital of neighboring Jiangsu Province.
The sum is enough to pay for the students' food and boarding, clothes, books and other miscellaneous costs for two years, said the chamber.
"We are looking forward to deepen our charitable and personal involvement with the Chinese community," said Titus von dem Bongart, chairman of the board of the German Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai.
"We also have the chance to follow up on the project by visiting the schools and we will then decide on further support during and after the two-year term," he added.
The Pfrang Association has been helping disadvantaged Chinese students, particularly orphans, children with disabilities, students of ethnic minorities, and girl students in Jiangsu and Anhui provinces.
About 100 to more than 200 students are able to get support from the association each year since the association was founded in 2001.
