Getting tough with group rentals
MINHANG District government will suspend the residence permits of tenants involved in group rentals, while blacklisting the owners of properties involved, under a trial launched yesterday.
And this may be expanded to across the city to crack down on the practice, officials said.
A tenant’s residence permit application process will be halted or existing permits not renewed if they are found to be group renting, the district government said.
Owners of properties involved will have a record placed on their personal credit rating and blacklisted from letting out their properties in future.
Minhang also plans to form special law enforcement teams and volunteers at district and community level to inspect rental conditions.
The district government launched its campaign accompanied by officers from the housing authority, public safety, firefighters and commerce and industry representatives.
Under group rental, multiple tenants stay in one room. This poses fire and gas leak hazards as well as sanitation, security, and noise problems.
