Gold thief sent to prison
A man who stole two gold necklaces from a jewelry store in November has been sentenced to three years in prison and fined 3,000 yuan (US$480).
The 18-year-old, surnamed Li, was tried at the Jiading District People’s Court on Wednesday. A second man, surnamed Mao, who fenced the items, was given five months’ detention and fined 2,000 yuan. Li said in court that he regretted his actions, after earlier telling police that he stole the necklaces to pay off his gambling debts. Neither Li nor Mao has lodged an appeal, the court said.
