Head of gay prostitution ring jailed for 10 years
A man received a 10-year jail sentence for organizing a gay prostitution ring, the Zhabei District People's Court said yesterday.
Zhang Jian, an unemployed high-school graduate, had set up a gay porn website, the court officials said.
The Jiangsu Province native used the website, "Shanghai Glamorous Gentleman Club," as a cover to enlist gay prostitutes and clients in April.
He called the activities "Gentleman Party," and left his cell phone number on the website. Zhang soon managed to find more than 10 young men to work as gay prostitutes, the court officials said.
Zhang rented an apartment on Hutai Road in Zhabei District as the prostitution den, paying a monthly rent of 4,000 yuan (US$600).
He split the earnings with the gay prostitutes, according to the court.
Zhang organized more than 50 liaisons for the prostitutes and earned 6,000 yuan before the ring was broken up by district police at the end of May.
The court said Zhang had committed the crime of organizing prostitution and sentenced him to 10 years in prison.
In addition, Zhang was given a fine of 5,000 yuan.
