Helping elderly
Shanghai is to train 100,000 professionals in elderly care, with the number of people aged 60 or over set to exceed 4.35 million by the end of 2015, or 30 percent of the city’s total population. It is predicted there will be 700,000 city residents over the age of 80 by 2015, 29,700 more than there were last year. The city is also exploring various means to improve retirement services such as increasing old-age pensions and adding public facilities for the elderly.
