Highway gets new lights

TRAFFIC authorities in Puxi have begun replacing street lights on both sides of the Inner Ring Road highway with new LED lamps. The replacement system is designed to save electricity and be more resilient to bad weather conditions, such as typhoons, an official said yesterday. The lamps will be replaced between the hours of midnight and 5am, during which time sections of the highway will be closed. The whole process if expected to take about a year to complete. The old lights have been in place since 1994, when the highway opened to the public.
