Holiday set fair for pleasant weather

Weather over the three-day Mid-Autumn Festival period will be warm and pleasant, the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau said yesterday, with maximum temperatures around 29 to 30 degrees Celsius.

Rain at times is possible on Saturday due to a moist easterly flow but the peripheral influence of the 19th severe tropical storm Usagi and a cold front may postpone the threat to the beginning of next week, when temperatures will start to drop.

The maximum temperature next Tuesday is expected to be 28 degrees, dropping to 24 degrees the next day due to the cold front.

Forecasts said their records indicated that Shanghai usually enters autumn officially around October 2. Autumn is declared when the maximum temperature is below 22 degrees for five straight days.

Clear skies are forecast for tonight when the moon will be seen at its biggest and brightest.

Eastday.com said the best places to view the full moon would be from  the Oriental Pearl TV Tower, Jin Mao Tower and the Shanghai World Financial Center.

The financial center is top of its list due to its observatory on the 100th floor, 474 meters above the ground.

The Bund is deemed the most romantic location from which to view the moon. Parks are said to offer peace and pleasant surroundings but according to the website, the most convenient locations would be residents’ apartment balconies.
