House buyer claims she was attacked
POLICE are investigating a house seller suspected of beating up a buyer in a desperate attempt to force her to agree to the termination of their contract after the price of the property rose, Shanghai TV news reported yesterday.
According to the buyer, surnamed Ni, she and her husband bought the house from the owner, surnamed Yu, in February, giving the owner, a 1.25 million-yuan (US$190,000) downpayment.
However, Yu recently accused Ni of concealing her ownership of a second property and told her she no longer wished to sell it to her, asking her to agree to the termination of their contract.
After Ni refused to sign, Yu allegedly showed up at her home on Monday with two men in tow and tried to force her to sign the termination document by attacking her and threatening to spray sulfuric acid in her face.
The real estate agent, surnamed Li, told Shanghai TV that Ni’s ownership of another house would not in any way affect the deal and that it was likely that Yu had found another buyer willing to pay a higher price.
Li said the house, which was sold for 4.08 million yuan, would fetch about 5 million yuan now.
