Household appliances sold online are faulty
Household appliances sold on several online shopping websites pose safety hazards, the city’s market watchdog said yesterday.
About one third of household appliances sold at these online websites and checked by the Shanghai Industrial and Commercial Administrative Bureau failed quality tests. Problems ranged from power source connection, protection of components with electricity, stability and mechanical hazard and label and descriptions that do not meet the requirements.
The bureau checked 45 batches of small household appliances such as humidifiers, electric cookers, air purifiers and electric fans sold at yixun.com, newegg.cn, ocj.com.cn, 360Buy.com, yhd.com and blemall.com.
About 57 percent of small appliances sold on ocj.com.cn were found to be substandard — the highest among all the websites, officials said.
A batch of Yadu humidifiers had structure problems as they looked like toys in appearance and could pose dangers to children.
A batch of electric mosquito swatters sold on yixun.com failed electricity and input power tests.
