How city's Sichuan donations were spent
SHANGHAI handed over local donations totaling more than 894 million yuan (US$131 million) to quake-hit Sichuan Province last year, the Shanghai Civil Affairs Bureau said yesterday.
On the bureau's Website (mzj.sh.gov.cn), donors can see how their contributions were used to purchase quake-relief goods and to establish rest homes, orphanages and schools for quake victims.
Cash collected from government departments, social organizations, companies and individuals amounted to 894,487,529.75 yuan up to the end of last year, including interest of 2,392,341.47 yuan, the bureau said.
The Website lists 81 records of donations which were given for specific projects or were to be spent in certain cities.
The bureau said the departments who received the donations had been told what projects donors wanted their cash to be spent on.
