Illegal villa structure demolished
ILLEGAL construction work carried out on a century-old historical villa in Hongkou District was torn down recently after the Hongkou District People's Court recently declared the structure illegal.
The court said the illegal construction was built by a woman, surnamed Liu, who lived on the first floor of the Tudor-style villa on Duolun Road in November 2011.
Last year, Liu was sued by a neighbor living on the second floor of the villa who complained that the illegal construction caused huge cracks on the walls and created safety hazards.
The court ordered Liu to demolish the changes and retain the villa's original facade.
But Liu did not act on the court's order and the court asked the villa's property management team to demolish the illegal constructions and repair the house.
The cost will be covered from Liu, the court said.
