SHANGHAI will carry out more infrastructure projects this year and make the city a transportation hub, Shanghai’s transport commission said.
The city will build multiple highways to nearby provinces like Jiangsu and Zhejiang. The main elevated road of S26 highway in Minhang District will open to traffic this year to ease the traffic on Beiqing Highway.
Two more terminal buildings will be built at Wusongkou International Cruise Terminal that will expand its shoreline length from 774 meters to 1600 meters, meaning four cruise ships can berth simultaneously.
Two more Metro lines — the south extension of Line 5 and the second and third phase of Line 13 — will start trial runs this year, adding another 41 kilometers to the Metro system. The service interval of all Metro trains that operate downtown (excluding line 5, 16, 17, Pujiang Line and Maglev train) will be shortened to within three minutes during rush hours.
Chongming District is also planning to build a Metro line across Huangpu River to connect with the city and two Metro lines on the island. It still needs research and inspections to make sure the projects do not jeopardize the eco-system.
In 2018, more emissions-free buses will be pressed into service.
Also, 4,000 charging poles for electric cars will be set up around the city.
