Intoxicated driver who killed 3 executed
THE man who caused three deaths in a drunk-driving crash was executed yesterday, the Shanghai No. 1 Intermediate People’s Court announced.
On February 11 last year, Huang Shihua, then 46, was driving along Chuanzhan Road near Nanliu Road when his car rear-ended a taxi, but he did not stop. The taxi driver, surnamed Shen, chased him to an intersection where he was forced to stop at a light.
Shen got out of his taxi but the drunken driver stepped on the gas and hit Shen.
Huang sped up while Shen clung to the engine hood. He was crushed to death when Huang’s car bumped into a Chery QQ, which rear-ended a Kia.
The Chery QQ blew up when its fuel tank burst and flames soon engulfed the car, which burned the two occupants to death, the court heard.
Huang was sentenced to death under the charge of endangering public security by the court in November last year.
Huang appealed. But the Shanghai Higher People’s Court upheld the verdict.
The Supreme People’s Court of China approved the death sentence recently.
