Jewelry products fail precious metal tests

SOME precious metal jewelry products made by companies in Shanghai and Shenzhen failed quality tests, the city's quality watchdog has said.

A platinum necklace sold by Guanghua Jewelry in Shenzhen was found to contain less platinum than required, while a gold bracelet sold by 3D-Gold Jewelry, also in Shenzhen, has less gold.

Silver chopsticks produced by Shanghai Silver in May failed the test for the same problem.

They were among the five batches of substandard products listed by the Shanghai Quality and Technical Supervision Bureau, which checked 103 batches of precious metal products in total.

The other two substandard products had seal or metal quality problems, the bureau said.

Bureau officials reminded consumers to pay close attention to the mark of precious metal jewelry products and avoid confusion of similar metals like platinum and palladium.
