Joy General Aviation grounded all flights by watchdog as investigation begins into fatal seaplane crash
ALL flight services of the Joy General Aviation are grounded today as the watchdog began probing into the seaplane crash in Shanghai’s Jinshan District, which left five onboard killed, the Civil Aviation Administration (CAAC) announced today.
The in-flight recorder, or the “black box,” of the crashed seaplane has been found and is being analyzed, according to the administration.
The East China Regional Administration under the CAAC has sent various expert teams to investigate the accident on flying safety, flight operation, aircraft maintenance, airport operation and public security, it said in a statement.
The administration has also begun investigating the carrier, which is based in the Zhoushan Archipelago, on its operation, personnel, flying approval, airworthiness and security, it added.
Five people were killed after the US Cessna 208B crashed into the Shanghai-Hangzhou Expressway No. 7835 Bridge at 12:20pm yesterday as it was taking off from Shanghai’s Jinshan District.
Another five people onboard were injured and is still under treatment, the Shanghai Health and Family Planning Commission said today. All of them, including the pilot who suffered severe bone fractures and other injuries, are in stable conditions now, the commission said.
